Move and Edit Youtube Videos using iPhone 3GS Camera Roll

The following tutorial will enable you to move your downloaded Youtube videos on your iPhone to the camera roll app. This will give you complete video editing capabilities of iPhone 3GS with which you can trim and share your downloaded videos on your iPhone, and then sync them with your PC or Mac. Step 1: You will first need to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch to get this to work.

Step 2: There are tons of apps available on the iPhone for downloading Youtube videos.

Step 3: You will now have to install SBSettings and Video Mover app from Cydia. SBSettings can be found in BigBoss repo, while Video Mover app can be found in http://apt.macosmovil.com repository.

Step 4: Now simply start SBSettings by swiping on the status bar on the top and enable “Video Mover” as shown in screenshot below.

That’s it! Now go to your Camera Roll in Photos app and you should now have all the downloaded Youtube videos in your Camera Roll. You can now trim the videos, share them with your friends via email, and can sync them with your PC or Mac.

HTC Sense like Snow Weather Background for Jailbroken iPhone

Did you ever got jealous of your friends with HTC HD2 which has this beautiful animated weather background which changes automatically with real weather forecast?

Comes in Let It Snow Widget theme which brings snowy animation background right on your iPhone and iPod touch screen. The main purpose of this theme is to display snowflakes which falls on the home screen right behind all the icons. The overall effect is really nice as can be seen in the screenshot below.

How-to Install:

Step 1: You will need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch to install this theme.

Step 2: Let It Snow Widget theme is available on http://cy.sosiphone.com/ repository and needs Winterboard app from Cydia to activate. Make sure you have installed Winterboard and have added http://cy.sosiphone.com/repo in Cydia.

Step 3: Once you are done with all the steps above, simply activate the Let It Snow Widget theme from Winterboard to make it fall snowflakes all over your iPhone home screen.

Official Bing app for iPhone coming soon

The Microsoft principal group program manager David Raissipour all but confirmed that they’re working on a Bing app for the iPhone. He said that Microsoft is working on the iPhone app which will have more than just mapping and search, but declined to give a time line for the release. Ina Fried also questioned the inclusion of mapping features that have been implemented using Silverlight inBing, for the iPhone app and the answer was “It’s certainly possible”.

Apart from mapping and search, it’s possible that Microsoft might implement voice operated search in the app like Google has in their app for the iPhone.

Microsoft also have their eyes set on non-Google branded Android devices for a Bing app. If you own a Windows Mobile or BlackBerry device, then luckily you can already download and use a Bingapplication. Android device owners, head on to m.bing.com to use the search engine. iPhone users can download Bing powered apps such as bingGo for search or MotionX GPS Drive for mapping.

Flickr app for the iPhone and iPod Touch just got updated to version 1.1. The new app finally brings support for multiple photo and video uploads at a time, which was one of the biggest complaints people had with version 1.1. Along with multiple uploads, you can now edit titles, descriptions, sets, tags and privacy controls for photos and videos.

These additions actually make the app more useful than it was before. I’m sure photography enthusiasts with iPhone will love them.

It’s finally here! Gosh, we’ll have been waiting so desperately for Blackra1n RC3 to release, and GeoHot has finally put Blackra1n RC3 up for download on his website so you can easily unlock iPhone 3.1.2 05.11.07 baseband.

This is not all, you will also be able to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 using Blackra1n RC3 and also unlock it using Blacks0w.

Like I said earlier, Blackra1n RC3 was suppose to hit the web at noon EST. For all those who don’t know, here’s a little introduction for both of these iPhone tools. blacksn0w is the unlock for the latest 05.11.07 baseband, and will also enable official tethering. blackra1n, a jailbreak for 3.1.2, has been updated to blackra1n RC3, with hacktivation support, 15 second speed improvement, Tiger+PPC support, and installation of the latest blackra1n.app.

How to Secure your Jailbroken iPhone from SSH Hack

A Dutch hacker recently threatened all jailbroken iPhone users with a proof of concept showing that their phones stand vulnerable to high risk and are absolutely unsafe after being jailbroken. He made use of port scanning method to find jailbroken iPhones in his country Netherlands running with SSH. He then sent unaware and totally off guard users a SMS message which read: “Your iPhone’s been hacked because it’s really insecure! Please visit doiop.com/iHacked and secure your iPhone right now! Right now, I can access all your files.”. The screen is question can be seen in the screenshot below.

Clicking on the URL took the victim to PayPal site and asked him/her to pay €5 in order to remove the hack. The demand for money was extremely immoral. The hacker was illegally accessing personnel files on his device and then blackmailing its owners for money. It has now been reported that he has changed his mind now and has given up on the illegal attempt to collect some money, and has posted instructions for reverting what he did to several Dutch iPhone users. He has also decided to return whatever he has received through his feat. This incident highlights the fact that jailbreaking removes the security mechanisms that is in place for the iPhone OS which ensures preventing unauthorized intrusions and securing the device against hackers. Someone else can also play the same trick and may not even tell you about it. So the lesson to learn here is that if you jailbreak your iPhone and do things like leaving SSH running, then you must change the default password.

Unfortunately, all iPhones have same default root password ‘alpine’ which almost everyone knows, and that many forget to change after jailbreaking, leaving their phone vulnerable to intrusion and hacking. The easiest thing one can do to secure his or her iPhone is to change default root password or by disabling SSH. Here is a simple guide on how to change your default SSH root password to make sure that your iPhone is secured against such attacks.

The following guide assumes that you have a jailbroken iPhone with OpenSSH installed.

Step 1: Go to Cydia and search for MobileTerminal app and then install it on your iPhone. Once you have successfully installed MobileTerminal, Reboot your iPhone.

Step 2: Now start MobileTerminal app and type the following command:

passwd

Step 3: You’ll now be asked for your old password which should be ‘alpine’ (without the quotes), followed by a new one of your choice (twice). Simply enter your old and new password and you are done!

UPDATE 1: As correctly pointed out by some users in the comments section below, the instruction in Step 2 will change your mobile password only. In order to change root password, type ‘login’ command (without quotes) and then press enter. Now type ‘root’ (without quotes) as your login and ‘alpine’ as your current root password. Once you have logged in as root, type ‘passwd’ command (without quotes) again and press enter. It will now prompt you to enter a new password (twice). Simply enter your desired new password again as you did in Step 3 (for changing mobile password) and you should be all fine. It is highly recommended that you change, both your mobile and root passwords to make sure you are completely safe from any outside SSH attack.
