Fusion-io IoXtreme SSD: Fastest Consumer SSD on the Market [Ssds]

HotHardware took a look at this consumer-focused PCI-Express SSD from Fusion-io, and found that while it’s pretty damn expensive at $900 for 80GB, it’s blazingly fast, hitting 700MB/s read and 300MB/s write speeds.

Unfortunately, in addition to the expense, it can’t be used as a bootable drive quite yet, although Fusion-io claims that feature is coming. And we probably shouldn’t gloss over the expense—yeah, it’s a “consumer drive,” and it’s cheap compared to similar drives, but it’s still $900 for 80GB. But it’s a cool look at where storage could be headed, and if you’ve got enough money to snag one (available at Amazon), well, I hate you lots.

ShutterBuddy Attacks Baby Photo ADD Issue with Simplicity

Babies, while cute, can turn ugly at family picture time. Look! A bit of floating dander. Picture ruined. Any little thing can become a distraction. Enter the ingenious—and head-smackingly simple—ShutterBuddy.

While not entirely scientific, the pattern supposedly grabs a baby’s attention and holds it long enough to get a decent photo. ShutterBuddy’s PR team managed to cook up this gem: “The ShutterBuddy™ is a revolutionary new product that uses the science of infant vision development and pattern recognition to capture and hold a baby’s attention so that you can get a great picture.” Making your kid smile on command is another story, but I’ve heard things that squeak or jingle sometimes do the trick.

At $20, the ShutterBuddy is cheapish. Could be worth a look if you’ve got a bunch of holiday greeting cards to send out this year. Oh, and a baby.

Beautiful Dress Made Out Of 24,000 LEDs [Design]

24,000 full-color, super-thin LEDs, 4,000 Swarovski crystals, and enough iPod batteries to keep everything glowing for about an hour. This picture doesn’t do the Galaxy Dress justice, but the video comes close.

This gorgeous thing was designed by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz and they say that it’s the “the largest wearable display in the world.” I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I do know that I wanted to cry when I read that the dress went straight from the sewing room to the museum mannequin, without ever being worn by a real woman.
